Supporting the LIM Project and Honoring Its Legacy For Continued Success

At Meteva Sport og Helse, we believe that sports and the right role models have the power to transform the lives of young people, build communities, and create opportunities for children no matter where they come from. That is why we are incredibly proud to announce our support, admiration and sponsorship of the LIM project—an extraordinary initiative dedicated to providing children in Bergen with equal opportunities to learn, play, and grow in a safe and supportive environment.

What is the LIM Project?

LIM stands for Lekser, Idrett og Mat (Homework, Sports, and Meals), a program designed to give all children equal opportunities to do sports. Established in 2017 by Arild Hovland, LIM was created to ensure that all children—regardless of background—have the chance to participate in sports, receive academic assistance, and share meals in a nurturing community. This initiative has not only enriched countless young lives but has also earned national recognition, culminating in Hovland being awarded the King’s Medal of Merit in November 2024. We honor the legacy of LIM and its founder, Arild Hovland for developing such a platform that our region so desperately needs.

A Holistic Approach to Child Development

The LIM project operates in collaboration with schools, sports clubs, and the Idrettsrådet i Bergen to provide a free after-school program for students in grades 5–7. More than just a sports initiative, LIM creates an environment where children can develop physically, academically, and socially. The program offers exposure to a wide range of sports, including weightlifting, climbing, dance, handball, football, rugby, crossfit, basketball, and taekwondo, with additional sports being introduced as the project expands.

LIM also aims to combat several societal challenges:

  • Many multilingual children struggle to integrate into traditional sports structures.

  • Basic physical skills among children have declined over the years.

  • School daycare programs end at 4th grade, leaving gaps in structured after-school activities.

  • Many families face financial and logistical challenges that limit their children’s access to organized sports.

LIM provides a solution by fostering a culture of inclusivity and belonging, where children can develop friendships, experience personal achievement, and build confidence. More than 80% of students in participating schools take part in the program, and many parents from diverse backgrounds actively contribute by assisting with meal preparation and logistics.

Fyllingen Lions: Proud Collaborators in the LIM Project

This past Monday, the Fyllingen Lions collaborated with LIM recognizing the project’s extraordinary value and impact. Five of the Lions players actively participated at Nikombom School, demonstrating their commitment to making a tangible difference in the local community and inspiring the younger children. Lions player Karamo Jawara, who has a personal connection to the Ny-Krohnborg School, was joined by teammates Bouna Black N’Diaye, Eric Fongue, Lars Espe, and Pol Olivier Cañadell, along with their in-house photographer, Henriette Wilhelmine Skouen. As dedicated role models, they are using their platform to foster positive relationships with students and teachers alike, while bringing attention to the importance of LIM’s work and its long-term sustainability.

Bouna Black N’Diaye emphasized the significance of building strong connections with youth to combat organized crime and the severe drug exposure that continues to affect the lives of so many young people.

“For real change to happen, we must unite as adults, communicate, and collaborate, which is happening when role models, teachers, parents, coaches, law enforcement and others unite in the local society,” Bouna stated. “It’s crucial that adults stay curious and involved in the students lives both physically and digitally, in order for trust to be established. When there is a healthy daily dialogue, secrets and very important information can be shared.”

Meteva Sport og Helse Sponsors

Recognizing the urgent need to support children in Bergen, Meteva Sport og Helse is taking action by becoming an official sponsor of the LIM project. One of our missions has always been to support the next generation, promote health, and strengthen communities, and we see LIM as a vital platform to accomplish these goals.

“Our sponsorship will help expand the program, allowing more schools and students to benefit from this life-changing initiative. We strongly encourage others who are interested to join us in supporting LIM—because ensuring equal opportunities for all children is a responsibility we must share. With the rise in youth crime and drug abuse in Bergen, adults in schools, sports, and culture within each local area must unite in a responsible and accountable manner,” says Louise Mohn.

The Road Ahead

As LIM continues to grow, it stands as a model of collaboration between public institutions, private organizations, and dedicated volunteers. Its success is a testament to what can be achieved when we come together for a common cause—to empower the next generation through education, sports, and community engagement.

Meteva Sport og Helse is honored to be part of this journey and celebrates leaders such as Arild Hovland who have made their passion to help children a purpose. We look forward to seeing the continued impact of LIM and creating a strong foundation for the future.
